What time does Khao San close?
The rule
Khao San is outside Bangkok’s designated entertainment zones (Ratchadaphisek, Silom, Phetchaburi, since 1991). Most of its bars trade on a restaurant licence, and those close at midnight. Only venues with an entertainment licence, or inside a hotel, may stay open later; in December 2023 the Bangkok Post counted 5 such venues on Khao San. When Thailand moved closing to 4 a.m. in December 2023, Khao San was left out for this reason. (news)
Now
Later hours discussed, nothing announced · On 30 October 2026 a government meeting discussed making Khao San and Rambuttri a pilot zone that stays open after midnight. No start date and no new closing time were announced, so the midnight rule still applies. (news)
Licences mostly say midnight; 2026 reviews say most bars wind down around 2 a.m. Enforcement varies from night to night, so do not count on 2 a.m. (from reviews)
