What to see at Wat Paknam

    1. The Big Buddha: 69 m tall, 40 m wide

Phra Buddha Dhammakaya Thepmongkhon, in bronze, begun on 4 March 2017 and finished in 2021. You can see it from the BTS on the way.

    2. The Maharatchamongkhon stupa, 80 m

Twelve-sided and white, with five floors inside, finished in 2012. A meditation hall and a museum are inside.

    3. The 8 m glass stupa

Inside the big stupa, one of its five floors holds an 8-metre stupa made of glass.

    4. Luang Pu Sodh’s coffin

The abbot who revived the temple died in 1959 and was never cremated. People still come to pay respects at his coffin, under his statue.

    The story

Wat Paknam was founded in 1610, and its 32,000 square metres are still ringed by water. In 1916 Luang Pu Sodh became abbot; the Dhammakaya meditation tradition began with him here.

The big stupa took from 2004 to 2012; the Big Buddha in front of it from 2017 to 2021.

    Don’t

    • Shoes off inside the stupa and the halls.
    • Keep quiet in the meditation hall.
