Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market
TRIPTALING CHAN
A big riverside food market in Taling Chan, on the Thonburi side of Bangkok, open weekends and public holidays. It is inside the city, so it is not a day trip: a taxi ride from the centre.

Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market
- Where
- Bang Ramat Road, Taling Chan district, Thonburi side of Bangkok (Wikipedia, Google Maps). It sits inside Bangkok. (Wikipedia; Google Maps)
- Hours
- Saturday, Sunday and public holidays, 08:00–17:00 (the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Google Maps agree). Some blogs give 08:30–16:30, and reviews say not every shop is open at 08:00. (Tourism Authority of Thailand; Google Maps; Naver blog stitcheese_; maptrotting.com)
- Getting there
- Taxi or Grab, about 30–45 minutes from central Bangkok in the morning (reviews). BTS Bang Wa plus a taxi of about ฿80–100 (older reviews). A free weekend shuttle from MRT Bang Khun Non has been reported; whether it runs is checking. (Naver blog next200208; Naver blog stitcheese_; The Lost Passport; TrueID Travel; Thailove (태사랑); Google Maps; Migrationology; Reddit)
- Costs
- Free entry. Longtail boat ฿100 a person for about an hour in most 2025–2026 reviews. Most snacks ฿10–60, grilled fish about ฿200–250 (review-based). (Naver blog stitcheese_; Naver blog next200208; Google Maps; The Lost Passport; Migrationology; Bangkok Floating Market Tours; Phuket 101 (Korean))

Getting there
By taxi or Grab: reviews give 30–45 minutes from central Bangkok in the morning. An older review paid ฿120–180 from Silom or Khao San; a 2022 Reddit thread says ฿300–400 by Bolt. The way back is jammed after midday (a November 2025 guide).
Cheaper: BTS Bang Wa, then a taxi of about 15 minutes for ฿80–100 (older reviews), or MRT Lak Song with a taxi from there. One October 2026 review paid ฿200 from the market to Lak Song.
A free weekend bus from MRT Bang Khun Non was reported to run 09:00–16:30 every 20–30 minutes (TrueID, November 2025), but an October 2026 review says it rarely comes. Treat it as a bonus and keep a taxi as plan B. By public transport alone the trip can take close to two hours (a February 2025 review).
The boat ride
Longtail boats leave near the entrance for ฿100 a person, about an hour: roughly 20 minutes out, 20 minutes at a stop, 20 minutes back. A boat leaves when about ten seats are full, so expect a wait of around ten minutes (Naver reviews, 2025).
Reviews are split. The stop is a small market or a garden where you can pay to feed animals, and the river is not much to see. Three Google reviews from October 2026 call the boat a scam or a joke; others (four days ago and two months ago) say it was worth ฿100 with no scam. Expect a short ride, not a floating market.
Other sources give ฿50, ฿60 (a July 2026 blog summary), or ฿60 for Thais and ฿100 for foreigners (a 2023 guide). Take ฿100 as the recent price and agree it before you board.
What to eat
Reviews agree on the salt-crusted grilled fish (about ฿250 in one guide) and prawns or glass-noodle dishes (about ฿150). One 2025 review ate seafood noodles, a drink and a dessert for under ฿300.
Snacks: coconut banana rolls at ฿50 for three (a queue of about 20 minutes in January 2025), mango sticky rice about ฿60, coconut water ฿10 and sugarcane juice ฿20 (an October 2026 review). The same review says prices have gone up. One reviewer likes the tables by the lake in zone 1.
When to go
Reviews say the crowd builds from about 11:00 and midday is hot and busy; one blog names 10:00–13:00 as the best food window. At 08:00 it was quiet, but some shops had not opened. Parking is about ฿20 in the paid zones, and zone 6 is free (a Google review).
Is it worth the trip?
Reviews agree it is a large local food market on the bank, and that very little of it floats. A February 2025 Korean review found the time and cost well spent; a 2023 Reddit reviewer found it far too big and loud. Go for the food and a short boat ride, not for canoe vendors. Taling Chan is the smaller of the two (Reddit and blog reviews, 2022–2025).
Entry, paying and safety
- Entry
- Free to walk in. The boat, parking in the paid zone (about ฿20) and food are paid.
- Paying
- Mostly cash, in small notes. Many stalls do not take cards.
- Safety
- It is open air and hot by midday: go in the morning. Agree the price of anything that has none posted, such as animal feed at the boat stop, before you pay.
- Alcohol ban days
- Whether the stalls sell beer or any alcohol at all is checking; on a ban day the rule applies to shops and venues as the page below says. Alcohol ban days

BEFORE YOU GO
Before you go
Go on a weekend morning
Both markets open Saturday and Sunday (Taling Chan on public holidays is checking). Reviews say the crowd builds from about 11:00 and midday is hot.
Bring cash
Small notes for food and boats. The Taling Chan boat counter takes cash only.
Agree boat prices first
Know what you want before the pier: a shared ticket, or a private boat. Reviews of Taling Chan report touts asking far more than the counter.
