Taling Chan Floating Market
- Where
- Chak Phra Road, Taling Chan district, Thonburi side of Bangkok (the market’s Facebook page, Wikidata coordinates). It sits inside Bangkok. (Wikidata; ตลาดน้ำตลิ่งชัน (Facebook))
- Hours
- Saturday and Sunday. Public holidays are checking (guides say it opens; see the note on 12 August 2026 below). The hours are checking too: Google Maps says 08:00–17:30, a 2025 review 08:00–16:30, a search summary of the market’s Facebook 07:00–17:00, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand page gives none. Reviews say many shops close early. (Google Maps; ตลาดน้ำตลิ่งชัน (Facebook); Naver blog foodlovetrip; Tourism Authority of Thailand)
- Getting there
- Air-con bus 79 from Khao San took about 35 minutes (November 2025). Taxi from inside Bangkok ฿150–200 (an undated review, probably 2022); BTS Bang Wa plus a taxi about ฿100 (a 2018 review). The free weekend shuttle from MRT Bang Khun Non has been reported to stop here; whether it runs is checking. The boat: shared or private
The ticket counter sells a shared longtail trip along Khlong Chak Phra. A May 2025 Trip.com post gives ฿99 for an hour with a stop at a temple, and says tickets are sold 10:00–15:00. A June 2025 Naver review paid ฿200 for an hour; older reviews say ฿69 or ฿79. Which is the counter’s price today is checking.
A private boat was about ฿1,000 for 1 hour 20 minutes, cash only (June 2025). An undated review (probably 2022) says ฿1,000 for up to four people, with ฿100 for each extra person.
At the pier, people with large maps call out private trips. Reviews report ฿500 a person, ฿1,200 for 30 minutes at one market, and, in a 2019 Tripadvisor review, ฿1,000 for two to Wat Arun. A June 2025 review says boat staff kept saying “not your boat” and departures were not on time. A Reddit reply says a hundred baht or so is not worth worrying about.
Getting there
Bus 79 (air-con) from Khao San took about 35 minutes when boarded at 10:00 (Brunch, November 2025). Taxi from inside Bangkok ฿150–200 (undated, probably 2022), BTS Bang Wa plus a taxi about ฿100 (2018), and ฿65 from Central Pinklao (2019).
The road ends at the market, so Grab and taxis drop you at the end and you walk to the entrance (a November 2022 review).
Food and what else to see
Reviews like the grilled prawns by the canal (฿300 in June 2025), the boat-noodle and satay rafts, miang and small fried bananas. A guide gives noodles about ฿65, oyster omelette about ฿40 and a dessert box about ฿20 (undated). One 2025 guide mentions a foot massage under the trees for ฿200 an hour. There are few meat-free savouries (an undated review).
Sungkrung floating market is under ten minutes’ walk through Wat Taling Chan: small and quiet (Brunch, November 2025). Get to Taling Chan before 11:00 if you want a table (a guide, August 2025).
Is it worth the trip?
Reviews from 2022–2026 call it small, a land market with a pier and only a few vendors on boats; one Reddit reviewer says it is “5 minutes”. It is liked for cheap food. A Google reviewer who came on Wednesday 12 August 2026 found few shops open; that day was a public holiday (Mother’s Day), so whether Taling Chan opens on weekday holidays is checking. Go on a weekend. Choose it for a snack and, if you want one, a shared boat trip.
Entry, paying and safety
- Entry
- Free.
- Paying
- Cash. The boat counter takes cash only (a June 2025 review), and few stalls take cards (a guide, August 2025).
- Safety
- Buy a shared ticket at the ticket counter. People at the pier calling out private trips have asked ฿500 a person or ฿1,200 a boat in recent reviews: agree the price and the route before boarding.
- Alcohol ban days
- Whether the stalls sell beer or any alcohol at all is checking; on a ban day the rule applies to shops and venues as the page below says. Alcohol ban days
Questions
- What days is Taling Chan Floating Market open?
- Saturday and Sunday. Guides say public holidays too, but a visit on the 12 August 2026 holiday found few shops open, so holidays are checking. The hours are checking: Google Maps says 08:00–17:30, other sources differ.
- How much is the boat at Taling Chan?
- A shared trip was ฿99 (May 2025) to ฿200 (June 2025) for about an hour; a private boat about ฿1,000. Offers at the pier of ฿500 a person or ฿1,200 a boat are reported. The counter’s price today is checking.
- Do I have to take a boat?
- No. Entry is free and you can walk the market. One Google review says you cannot enter without a ฿1,000 boat; no other source says so, so treat it as a tout’s claim.
- How do I get to Taling Chan from Khao San?
- Air-con bus 79 took about 35 minutes in November 2025, or a taxi for about ฿150–200 (undated review).
BEFORE YOU GO
Before you go
Go on a weekend morning
Both markets open Saturday and Sunday (Taling Chan on public holidays is checking). Reviews say the crowd builds from about 11:00 and midday is hot.
Bring cash
Small notes for food and boats. The Taling Chan boat counter takes cash only.
Agree boat prices first
Know what you want before the pier: a shared ticket, or a private boat. Reviews of Taling Chan report touts asking far more than the counter.
