Chinese New Year in Bangkok

The 2027 date, whether it is a day off, and where Bangkok celebrated in 2026.

At a glance

  • 2027 date6 Feb (Sat) (the first day of the lunar year, Year of the Goat; Hong Kong Observatory)
  • Public holiday? No. It is not on the Bank of Thailand’s 2027 list, nor on the two calendars we compared. In the five southernmost provinces (Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, Satun, Songkhla) bank branches close for it as an extra day when it is not already a day off; the BOT gives no date, and 6 Feb 2027 is a Saturday.
  • AlcoholNot an alcohol ban day: the ban-day list for 2027 has no entry on 6 Feb (Sat). The nearest is Makha Bucha Day, 21 Feb (Sun).
  • 2027 eventsNot announced as of 7 November 2026.

2027 events

Not announced as of 7 November 2026: no dates, venues or road closures for the 2027 celebrations have been published by the organisers we checked.

This page will get the programme once it is out. Until then, last year’s list below shows where Bangkok usually celebrates.

What ran in 2026

A record of 2026, not a plan for 2027. Dates are as published in the news and government releases listed under Sources.

The main Yaowarat Chinese New Year festival planned for 17 Feb (Tue) – 18 Feb (Wed) 2026 was cancelled because the dates fell within the mourning period for Queen Mother Sirikit (The Nation, Daily News, 2 Feb 2026). The lighting and the other venues below went ahead.
